Today’s tip: the rule of three

Do you practice hendiatris? No, it’s not the latest diet fad, it’s Ancient Greek for “one through three”, a figure of speech where three things are used to convey a single idea.

Sun, sea and sand. Sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. Hands, Face, Space.

It’s a method of making something memorable, reinforcing a thought or an idea, and creates a simple way of explaining an often complex concept.

When you stray from three words (excluding “and”), then it’s not strictly hendiatris but, it’s close enough and the end result is broadly the same. People remember you.

“A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play” may be more than three words in total but there’s only really three that matter.

If you adopt it lock, stock and barrel, you’ll soon find that customers remember you more easily, and they’ll be yours hook, line and sinker.

Game, set and match.
