James. St George’s Hall, Bradford. April 8 2008. The “classic” line-up. The day after the new album came out. Not sure if live musical experiences get better than this.
With a band like James – or more accurately their fan base – it was no surprise that a good proportion of the audience knew the words to the new songs already (the album was only released the day before, and yes, I got it).
Whilst the mix of new to old may not have been perfect for an old fogey like me, I appreciate it’s a tour to support the new material – not a greatest hits package. (That was Manchester a few years ago, when I made a guest appearance on the “Getting Away With It Live” album… ok, I’m in the audience but I swear I can hear my cheer between songs).
To be short and sweet – if you can get a ticket for any of the gigs (or the December tour, tickets released at the end of the month), go. You’ll thank me.
