Whether static or content managed, providing e-commerce or not, I follow six steps when working on either a new or replacement site:

 

  • Discussion - what is the goal of the site? To sell off the page, promote a product, raise awareness or all three?
  • Planning - who are the typical clients? What content do we need? What is the buying process?
  • Wireframe - a content-free representation of the site (or key pages) to determine the generic 'look' of the site, allows us to concentrate on the functionality without the distraction of words or pictures, ensuring that key elements are perfectly-placed and the site will meet its requirements
  • Design and Content - convert the plans into reality. The design process balances strong graphical design with ease of use, accessibility and search engine optimisation
  • Testing - either internally or with a focus group to ensure the site performs as needed
  • Live - the final step, sending the site live on the Internet and promoting its existence

 

At all stages, I work closely with the client to an agreed budget and within an agreed timetable, using tools such as Basecamp to make the process painless.

Traditional PR typically places a journalist between a brand and its consumers - social media removes that 'barrier', allowing brands to communicate direct with their public.

 

Traditional PR isn't dead but it's only half the story. Because of my experience in journalism, PR, marketing and technology, I am able to advise clients about all aspects of online PR and provide them with the tools to take advantage of them.

 

  • Multimedia Press Releases - combines text with audio and video elements, hyperlinks to relevant supporting material etc. to create the 21st century successor to the paper-based press release

Mainly, I talk about digital media - podcasting, blogs, social networks and the like - but I've also produced and delivered courses in PR and journalism.

 

The digital media seminars and training cover the technology and culture of our digital world, as well as providing practical help and tips.

  • Practical examples - I don't just discuss new technology, I show it in action, with real-life examples of how it can be used to improve your business.
