The weekly satirical sketch show has never really taken off in the same way in the UK. Yes we had the Ben Elton-fronted “Saturday Live” in the 80s and 90s. And, as much as I love “Bremner, Bird and Fortune” it’s not the same.

So, things have almost reached the level of “interesting” in the Nantwich and Crewe by-election, with Labour candidate Tamsin Dunwoody basing much of her campaign on slagging-off Tory candidate Edward Timpson, describing him as “a toff”.
