The weekly satirical sketch show has never really taken off in the same way in the UK. Yes we had the Ben Elton-fronted “Saturday Live” in the 80s and 90s. And, as much as I love “Bremner, Bird and Fortune” it’s not the same.

Oh my God. This could be a disaster.
It isn’t a question of politics. Nor is it a matter of which side of the political divide on which you sit. But the idea of having Sarah Palin one missed heartbeat away from the most-powerful job in the world scares the hell out of me. And it should you too.

So, things have almost reached the level of “interesting” in the Nantwich and Crewe by-election, with Labour candidate Tamsin Dunwoody basing much of her campaign on slagging-off Tory candidate Edward Timpson, describing him as “a toff”.
