Record companies demonstrate idiocy – again

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Just doing a little light reading over brekkie and – yet again – there’s a story in the “geek press” about the record companies and publishers in the US doing all they can to protect their out-dated business model.

I’ve previously-documented my love for all things related to the band James. So if high-quality indie rock does nothing for you… I’d recommend skipping to the next post.

Illness leads to ringtones

Monday, September 6th, 2010

As well as enjoying a wonderful day out at a music festival with the Munchkin on Saturday and a great lunch yesterday with the “other half” and some friends… I’ve also been spent the weekend suffering from toothache. Yay! Who doesn’t love a good dose of toothache?

No, me neither. I was so out of it yesterday that, post-lunch, my girlfriend sent me to bed for a lie-down – and I was next seen three hours later.

Now *this* is cool…

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

…or maybe it’s just me.

“Eye of the tiger”, the Rocky classic by Survivor, played by a bunch of guys using nothing but iPads as musical instruments… oh, and occasionally spinning on their heads.

The apps they used are:
Real Drums
Pro Keys
Baby Scratch
Guitar Mania

(I’ve found these links myself based on information in the YouTube video’s comments… hope they’re the right ones!).

Top video from a top fella…

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

It’s the Internet generation folks, where 1,000,001 talented people are making music (and a few quid) without the need for major labels. One such person is Chance, a top fella from the States who I’ve been fortunate enough to listen to – and exchange emails with – for a four or five years.

After a year off, he’s back with a great new song and a fantastic new video.

Enjoy.

Watch the video in higher quality here.

Songsmith does rock classics

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

As loyal readers will know, I was somewhat perturbed by Microsoft’s new Songsmith software. And it appears my fears were well-founded.

Already there’s a growing group of cheeky chaps and chapettes abusing the software to create their own versions of a number of perennial rock classics. And every single note is car crash awful.

Microsoft Songsmith: Dear God, tell me this is a joke…

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Following the dog’s breakfast that was Windows Vista, Microsoft has got to do something pretty special with the upcoming Windows 7. But it looks like they just don’t ‘get it’.

One man band

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I hate being ill – and spent most of Monday and Tuesday, coughing and sneezing thanks to the double whammy of viral tonsillitis and a bad head cold. Oh well, these things are sent to try us etc.

But being unable to exist without my regular dose of web goodness, I spent most of the time trawling the web for ‘toys’ I may have not heard about whilst doing boring things like earning a living etc.
