Why's all this relevant?
Well, have you dealt with "digital experts" before? Not always the most fully-rounded of characters.
I actually speak plain English, I don't live in a digital bubble, I think about the bottom line reasons for recommending a project and I spend time away from computers. Not a lot of time if I'm honest - but enough to recognise and understand the world in general.
My love of technology isn't for its own sake but for all it allows me to do. Whether that be creating new customers for your business, helping you to keep in better touch with existing customers - or carrying my favourite songs, TV shows, films and photos in my pocket.
My favourite tv shows
I don't get chance to watch a lot of television these days. Like many people I get a lot of my 'visual entertainment' off the interweb. But there are some shows when, if at all possible, I sit down with a coffee and lose myself for a few minutes.
Or, more often than not, buy them on DVD...
My favourite films
I'm no Jonathan Ross but I do like a good film. Sometimes intelligent, sometimes mindless moving wallpaper. And, yes, sometimes arty foreign stuff.
So how did I get to where I am today?
I began my professional career as a journalist, writing about all manner of things for local, regional, national and international titles. After writing for what felt like most of the world’s media, I crossed the floor and worked in PR for agencies small and large, for clients ranging from blue chip brands to niche specialists.
On my travels, I’ve also worked as a training officer, audio/visual technician, designer, marketing manager and mobile DJ. All useful skills to have in one’s marketing toolkit.
I’ve been fascinated with “that there interweb” since it’s nascent days when I was a beer-soaked student at college in Edinburgh. As well as being new and exciting, it combined my interests in words, design, technology into one seriously-sexy medium.
Add-in my considerable marketing experience - and that’s how today I find myself working in the field of digital strategy and production.
