I’ve mentioned the “30 day song challenge” group on Facebook before but thought I’d revisit the topic as I’m now in the home straight, having “answered” for 18 days running so far.
And, looking back over my choices so far, I’m happy with most of them but being the musical trainspotter I am I know I’d change one or two of my choices with hindsight.
Day 01 – your favorite song
“The choice would likely change daily but this will always be in the top 3… or 5…”
Day 02 – your least favorite song
“Need I explain why?”
Day 03 – a song that makes you happy
“It’s just a great little pop song – can’t help but smile when I hear it.”
Day 04 – a song that makes you sad
“I have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to this all the way through; it’s especially heart-wrenching when you watch the video and know that he died shortly afterwards.”
Day 05 – a song that reminds you of someone
“Reminds me of my girlfriend, I once played it on the guitar to her – in public. And managed not to sound terrible.”
Day 06 – a song that reminds you of somewhere
Embedding disabled by YouTube on this one – click here to watch Prefab Sprout singing “We let the stars go”.
“Reminds me of evenings at college in Edinburgh.”
Day 07 – a song that reminds you of a certain event
“As my daughter was born, this was the song playing on the CD player…”
Day 08 – a song that you know all the words to
“Not only do I know all the words, so does aforementioned daughter – and we’ve been known to sing along to it together, either with the record of with my guitar playing. And, yes, I am worried about the therapist’s bills when she finds out what it all means…”
Day 09 – a song that you can dance to
“I not only dance to it, I know *the* dance to it. It was a long time ago: be gentle with me.”
Day 10 – a song that makes you fall asleep
“Not fall asleep as much, but chill me riiiiiight ouuuuuut.”
Day 11 – a song from your favorite band
“Well if it wasn’t obvious already; according to last.fm this is my favourite band. And who am I to argue with technology?”
Day 12 – a song from a band you hate
Another one that can’t be embedded. If you’re into aural mutilation, click here to listen to Westlife singing “Flying without wings.”
Day 13 – a song that is a guilty pleasure
“Say what you like about the members, say what you like about the image, say what you like about their singing abilities. This is a great Motown-esque pop song.”
Day 14 – a song that no one would expect you to love
“I like a bit of country music – is that a crime now??”
Day 15 – a song that describes you
“My tongue may have been in my cheek when I chose this… may…”
Day 16 – a song that you used to love but now hate
“To save I either loved or now hate this song is probably a little extreme; let’s just say that incessant playing of it has made me weary whenever I hear its opening bars coming out of the radio.”
Day 17 – a song that you hear often on the radio
“I don’t listen to music radio that much – but I do listen to a lot of podcasts, and this is the theme tune to one of my favourites, ‘Fighting Talk’ on BBC 5Live… so it’s on the radio too!”
Day 18 – a song that you wish you heard on the radio
“A great song, rarely-heard anywhere. Probably one of the reasons I don’t listen to music radio much if I’m waiting for this to turn up.”
I’ll do a run down of 19-30 when I’ve done them.
